What to Want

Some people are very clear about what they do and do not want in life. Others tend to move with the tide and receive every day as a new adventure. Yet, another group finds comfort in sticking to what's familiar, avoiding change at all costs.

Most of us assume we know what is best for us because we've been with ourselves our whole lives. We've become acquainted with what moves us and makes us tick. Nobody is in our skin or minds but us. We should know best, right?

While it is good to find your true self and honor that, it is almost impossible to do so without seeking the counsel of the "manufacturer" first. Our Creator knows better than we ever could who He created us to be. So despite what we experience in life, perfect wisdom only comes from God. It is perfectly fine to have a preference or desire for things as long as you are open to God showing you something more and/or better.

More times than I can count, I thought I knew what would be best, only to have God show me something better than I ever dreamed. Even when it didn't look like the most desirable thing to do, I have been humbled by finding out that what I thought I knew only paled in comparison to what God had planned for me.

After years of going in one direction and then being redirected by God, I've learned that God's will for my life is the best thing to desire. Don't be so set on what you think you want that you tie God's hands to bless you with more. God will give you the desires of your heart, but allow Him the freedom to deliver them to you the way He sees fit. He loves you beyond measure. Allow Him to show you just that.
